Hey folks, Harry here... Alex Kurtzman directing... Tom Cruise starring... set Modern Day... I haven't really liked the glimpses we've had at THE MUMMY until this trailer. Those early teases were stressing the physical insanity that Tom Cruise puts himself through at every step of his career. All that ZERO G Plane stuff, it's a sure way to fire people up and just look in awe and wonder at what Cruise puts himself through as an action star. He basically got this from JACKIE CHAN's use of behind the scenes to connect to his fans. James Cameron often does the same thing in the creation of his films. Going all the way back to THE ABYSS - where he shows us just how much further he is willing to push cinema... but... a ZERO G Plane stunt sure as fuck doesn't feel like anything I'd think makes sense for a MUMMY movie.
This trailer though - the VFX team has more of Sofia Boutella's MUMMY in play - and you get more of a sense of the story - It seems they're going apocalyptic with things here - and I'm not sure at all what this "HORROR UNIVERSE" is going to be like from Universal - but this is the first trailer I've seen from the film that has me thinking with a smile on my face... "I REALLY WANT TO SEE THAT!" No matter what, these sorts of hyper-action versions of Horror seem to miss all the magic the original UNIVERSAL HORROR films had.
Fun right? I could imagine it being satisfyingly creepy fun. Still might not work, we'll have to see.
