Stephen King's IT Part 2 filming soon? Pennywise Lives!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Take it with a grain of salt, but a site that compiles a list of in-production films (which I would guess is sourced by agency update reports) called MyEntertainmentWorld has listed the second half of the big Stephen King IT adaptation as going before cameras soon. Like, in a couple weeks soon.

They say the film, under the working title Accordion, will start filming March 17th. That sounds soon, but from what I hear it makes sense. I know director Andres Muschietti wanted to include some flashbacks with the kid cast of the first one and they're all at the age where even waiting another summer will break continuity.

If you're not familiar with King's book... well, first fix that. It's one of his best novels. But the short version is that the story bounces back and forth between the same group between their pre-teen first run-in with a supernaturally evil clown and their approaching-middle aged selves who have to return to fight it when it pops back up.

The first film (seeing release this September) is the story of the kids forming their group in fictional 1980s Derry, Maine and the adults return in modern day. In the book it was '50s for the kids and '80s for the adults, but I guess we're all getting too damn old now to make that work for today's audiences.

It's strange we haven't heard one peep about casting for the older versions of the Loser's Club, which is the only thing really making me doubt the validity of this random listing. R-rated adaptations are having a field day right now, albeit in the super hero world. I imagine WB isn't as scared of a big R-rated franchise after seeing Logan's numbers this weekend, but from what I understand they were all-in from the beginning.

We'll see how this one shakes out, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's real and they're being sneaky by already shooting the second part. Of course it could always be a round of pick-ups for the first film that was mistaken as filming on the second part. So many possibilities! But all I know is that I'm excited to see that cast of kids face Pennywise is a big R-rated movie.

Hat tip to Bloody-Disgusting, where I first saw this reported.
