Hey folks, Harry here for the 20th year of Oscar stream of consciousness writing throughout the Oscar broadcast. Right now Andrew Garfield is talking about HACKSAW RIDGE and I'm watching the ABC Red Carpet an hour and a half out from the actual award ceremonies. I have to say, I wish I loved Andrew Garfield this much as Peter Parker as I do him being interviewed. Now we have John Legend talking about LALALAND - which I unabashedly love. It seems cool for some folks to bash the love for others, but I saw the film as being a reminder. A reminder that we can still sing and dance, even in the modern traffic jams and career desperations that folks deal with.
Now they're discussing the Black Films and nominations of this year - and to me. It is all about the fucking strength of the work this year. The Oscars should never be about percentages, but about the BEST PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR - and FENCES, HIDDEN FIGURES and MOONLIGHT are fucking tremendous films with amazing performances.
Dev Patel - not a huge fan on his part of LION, to me, my love of that film is wholly upon the little boy, who RULED me. That part of the film was the best, the second half - not so much for me. Matt Damon should just stab Kimmel in the chest and just take over as host. Another film nominated alot this year that I just did not like one bit was MANCHESTER BY THE SEA - it just grated me the wrong way. I'm still angered by no nominations for Park Chan Wook's THE HANDMAIDEN. Negga's red dress reminds me of Lucy Westerna's dress in BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA... Isabelle Huggert looks amazing tonight. I really wish they spent more time talking about talent, the work these artists are doing, instead of the gowns. Always drives me nuts.
For me, ARRIVAL, FENCES, LA LA LAND, HIDDEN FIGURES and MOONLIGHT are the best nominated films for Best Picture this year. I enjoy HACKSAW RIDGE and HELL OR HIGH WATER and LION - but feel they have resonance issues with me. They just don't ring true to me. Mahershala Ali is talking MOONLIGHT - and I love him there, but LUKE CAGE - I adored him - so hardcore I'm rooting for to win. Can't wait to see Mahershala Ali in ALITA BATTLE ANGEL!
Ok - missed a bit of the broadcast there - my sis brought the Oscar Ballots and we all filled ours out for the annual family contest.
Now, Viola Davis - so great in FENCES - holy shit, Michael J Fox is presenting tonight. Sorry geek out. Viola Davis' part in FENCES is one of those tremendous performances that blew me away - and had no expectations for.
Ryan Gosling - I get why he's nominated for LA LA LAND, but he was even way the fuck better in THE NICE GUYS, but the Academy hardly ever gets it right. Now for Casey Affleck - I've met him a couple times... this started a fight in my house - as I begin screaming THE LONG RIDERS is the fucking EXCALIBUR of fucking Jesse James movies! - Emma Stone looks stunning as usual. Salma!!!
Alright - how do you feel about the VIS FX category this time out. To me, the award is owned by DOCTOR STRANGE, but I love JUNGE BOOK and ROGUE ONE and KUBO too... But DOCTOR STRANGE showed me shit I hadn't seen before - so it wins. And fuck the Academy if they don't understand. Nicole Kidman is onscreen now - and I just don't feel she was all that great in LION. Me just being honest here. Charlize is here - and she fucking should've won for MAD MAX FURY ROAD! Damien Chazelle looks like a fucking teenager. So much fucking talent. But we're talking about how Elijah Wood or Steve Buscemi would just destroy him like they were Hulk Hogan!
DENZEL - his role in FENCES is one for the ages - his best role that I've ever seen him in, and I've seen every film he's done. He stole BNAT this year. The whole room was blown the fuck away - and I've watched and loved that over and over again. Naomie Harris was amazing drug mother in MOONLIGHT - tremendous role.
MEL GIBSON - I love that he's back on the Red Carpet - wonder if he'll do SUICIDE SQUAD - and I love how he feels he hasn't a chance this year, because he's a realist - but one never ever knows. Emma Roberts - I love her, I will cheer if she wins, but I most want Isabelle Huppert to win for ELLE - although I get how difficult that film is for folks.

Walmart films - scary - Receipt... make a movie. Feels like a 24 hour Alamo Drafthouse challenge, but with an obviously crazy budget.
Justin Timberlake is singing through the theater... Love the set... Now the set is in color - cool. Song seems to be Can't Stop The Feeling--- but I've only heard DANCE DANCE DANCE.... Timberlake calls out Denzel... JACKIE CHAN!!! STING. That's fun.
Now for the man with no talent, Jimmy Kimmel - he has ruined the Oscars already. C'mon Damon - shoot him! I want Jason Bourne to rip his head clean off. Matt kill him. I really truly hate Kimmel. "Remember Last Year When The Oscars Seemed Racist" - AMAZON fluffing... Fucking stop Kimmel. SHUT THE FUCK UP - begin the awards.
Meryl Streep has phoned it in in over 50 films... Ok, Kimmel ruled that one.
SUPPORTING ACTOR - they're showing history of the award - via acceptance speeches - very classy! Alicia Vikander is presenting... Go Ali! I do not support so many of these actors this time out. Love the actors, not necessarily the role
oscar goes to Mahershala Ali - MOONLIGHT - he was so great in LUKE CAGE and MOONLIGHT! First award goes to the Muslim! A man of peace, art and love! AWESOME!

THE ROCK comes out to introduce the singing for HOW FAR I'LL GO from MOANA - being sung by Lin Manuel and Auli'i Cravalho - and I wonder - why this song? They hit her in the head with a pole and she didn't miss a beat. FUCKING WOW. The Rock's song was the best, to me. Giggle. Nice number!
