Matt Reeves has now been offered the BATMAN director's chair!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, we knew that Matt Reeves was WB's top choice to fill the director's chair on BATMAN after Ben Affleck departed, but now we know that he's gone from top-of-the-list to officially offered the gig.

Deadline's story says they're in active negotiations with Reeves and things are looking like a lock.

This is great news for WB... if they trust Reeves make the movie. If he's entering a minefield of studio politics and creative differences then he's gonna have a rough time.

I'm an optimist at heart the idea of a kickass Matt Reeves directed Batman movie is so choice. He has proven himself such a cinematic filmmaker with Let Me In and the Apes films that my geek imagination sparks at what he'll do with this character. Not just on a visual level, but on a character level. He's one of the few filmmakers out there who can handle both with equal talent.

Warners obviously knows Reeves is a great filmmaker. Let's just hope they know WHY he's a great filmmaker and let him work his magic for them.

As a fun aside: THR's Borys Kit tweeted that he also heard Warner Bros considered both Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez for the gig. Now I can't help but think about the kinds of movies they would have made!
