Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I sadly didn't get to go play in the snow this year, but from afar it seems like it was a pretty good Sundance. One of the buzzy movies I kept seeing my Twitter feed was this movie called Beach Rats.
Neon ended up picking it up. That's the new distribution joint started by the Alamo Drafthouse's Tim League and Tom Quinn. If you think about Drafthouse Film's weird/awesome taste in film you might get the idea that Beach Rats could be a bit on the insane side, but the comparison I heard the most from critic friends out of Sundance was Moonlight.
The trailer doesn't shed much light on the film. We only see a young man with model looks posing in front of a mirror and taking selfies. The confidence of his posing doesn't seem to reach his eyes, though.
The word is good on this one. Looking forward to checking it out. In the meantime, here's the trailer!
