Jack Nicholson coming out of retirement for a US remake of TONI ERDMANN!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Variety has some really exciting news. Normally a US remake of a foreign film isn't something to get psyched about, but it is when that remake is Toni Erdmann and it's going to be the movie to bring Jack Fucking Nicholson out of retirement.

Jack Nicholson has been passing on projects left and right. I heard Louis CK talking about trying to cast him in Horace & Pete on Marc Maron's WTF Podcast and Louis said that Nicholson was super into the script and chatted with him a lot and then when Louis asked him to play his dad in the show Nicholson responded by saying he has a really great life of spending his days reading in the shade and there's very little that could get in the way of that lifestyle.

Toni Erdmann is that thing, it seems. Variety not only said Nicholson's a lock to play the title character's practical joke playing father, but he's the one who instigated the project. They say he talked Brad Grey into buying the rights and setting up the remake for him to star in.

Kristen Wiig will play his daughter and that alone would be great casting, but damn, man. I had resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't get another Jack Nicholson performance, that the man was just done with show business, so I'm still in a little bit of a happy geek shock right now.

Let's hope this one happens and happens fast. Afterall, Nicholson has a good track record of making great English language adaptations of foreign flicks, like The Departed. Good Hollywood mojo and a juicy role for one of our best living actors. Yes, please!
