Harry's got your 2017 OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!! Fully Updated!

Hey folks, Harry here with the 2017 OSCAR NOMINATIONS - I'm going to get the info up as quick as possible, then return, as usual, to given commentary where it is appropriate.

Right now, it's that final twenty minutes before the live announcements, it then takes a bit of time to get the whole list, but I'm on it.  I'm hoping THE RED TURTLE gets a nomination for BEST ANIMATED FEATURE.   I'm quite curious to see what Michael De Luca & Jennifer Todd have in store for us with this year's Oscars.   I want lavish long musical numbers and for the broadcast not to end till 4am.   I'm invested, I'll watch!

Ok, now here we go...

Best Picture

Arrival

HARRY HERE:  Personally, I'm pulling for LA LA LAND to win out of this list.  Sadly DEADPOOL did not nab a spot.  Nice to see ARRIVAL here!

Best Cinematography

Arrival (Bradford Young)

La La Land (Linus Sandgren)

Lion (Grieg Fraser)

Moonlight (James Laxton)

Silence (Rodrigo Prieto)

HARRY NOTE:  LION is shot beautifully, but LA LA LAND makes me soar.  That shot of Emma in the blue dress between the two red neon strips...  That wins!  SILENCE is the most powerfully shot film of the year.   LION, I'd agree if the whole movie was the kid's adventure.

Best Supporting- Actor

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight)

Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water)

Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea)

Dev Patel (Lion)

Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals)

HARRY NOTE: For me, this is between MICHAEL SHANNON and MAHERSHALA ALI

Best Documentary Feature

Fire at Sea

I Am Not Your Negro

Life, Animated

O.J.: Made in America

The 13th

HARRY NOTE: These are all very solid choices, I prefer I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO out of this group.

Best Foreign Language Film

A Man Called Ove, Sweden, Hannes Holm, director

The Salesman, Iran, Asghar Farhadi, director

Tanna, Australia, Bentley Dean, Martin Butler, directors

Toni Erdmann, Germany, Maren Ade, director

HARRY NOTE: I utterly despise the Academy for not nominating THE HANDMAIDEN so fuck their nominations.   I'd vote for A MAN CALLED OVE of what's left.

Best Actor

Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea)

Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge)

Ryan Gosling (La La Land)

Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic)

Denzel Washington (Fences)

HARRY NOTE: This should go to Denzel Washington - who is just tremendous in FENCES.  Not a big MANCHESTER fan, film just laid there for me.   Did not like it.   Ryan is likely to win, but this is my fave Denzel performance and that's really saying something.

Best Costume Design

Allied (Joanna Johnston)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Colleen Atwood)

Florence Foster Jenkins (Consolata Boyle)

Jackie (Madeline Fontaine)

La La Land (Mary Zophres)

Best Original Score

Jackie (Micachu)

La La Land (Justin Hurwitz)

Lion (Dustin O'Halloran, Hauschka)

Moonlight (Nicholas Britell)

HARRY NOTE: Out of this group I'd go with the JACKIE score, which is amazing with that film.

Best Original Song

"Audition" (La La Land)

""Can’t Stop the Feeling!" (Trolls)

"City of Stars" (La La Land)

"The Empty Chair" (Jim: The James Foley Story)

"How Far I'll Go" (Moana)

HARRY NOTE:  CITY OF STARS and HOW FAR I'LL GO are the best songs from Film this year.   I'm happy either way.

Sully

HARRY NOTE: I'd like for ARRIVAL to win the sound categories!

Moana (Disney)

My Life As a Zucchini (GKIDS)

The Red Turtle (Sony Classics)

Zootopia (Disney)

HARRY NOTE: Ok - So I pretty much love this category.   and so long as KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS rightfully wins, or loses to THE RED TURTLE I'll be super happy.

Best Animated Short

Blind Vaysha (National Film Board of Canada)

Borrowed Time (Quorum Films)

Pear Cider and Cigarettes (Massive Swerve Studios and Passion Pictures Animation)

Best Actress

Isabelle Huppert (Elle)

Ruth Negga (Loving)

Emma Stone (La La Land)

Natalie Portman (Jackie)

Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins)

HARRY NOTE:  I can make a case for each and every last one of them.   I'd be most happy if Isabelle Huppert wins... although, Ruth Negga is amazing in LOVING and because of PREACHER I just wanna hand her all the awards.   But Meryl Streep would kind of be a great fuck you to Trump.   But Emma and Natalie are both just hypnotic in every single moment.

Best Director

Arrival -- Denis Villeneuve

Hacksaw Ridge -- Mel Gibson

La La Land -- Damien Chazelle

Manchester by the Sea -- Kenneth Lonergan
