In “Thor: Ragnarok,” the God of Thunder will find Hulk engaged in gladiatorial combat on Sakaar (aka Planet Hulk), according to a new interview with director Taika Waititi.
Jeff Goldblum’s The Grandmaster will oversee Big Green’s contests (in the Planet Hulk comics it was a fellow called Red King, whom Hulk eventually replaces as ruler).
In the comics, Hulk is exiled from Earth by the Illuminati – a secret superhero supergroup whose membership has included Tony Stark, Charles Xavier, Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Stephen Strange, Steve Rogers, T’Challa and Inhumans ruler Blackagar “Black Bolt” Boltagon. Deciding the Hulk is too dangerous for Earth, the Illuminati use a space shuttle to jettison Hulk to a peaceful planet – but a wormhole unexpectedly sucks the shuttle and spits it out onto violent Sakaar.
Did the movie Tony Stark get the movie Bruce Banner drunk and blast him into space? (This would explain his absence during “Captain America: Civil War.”)
The vengeance-fueled print Hulk eventually returns to Earth with no help from Thor.
“Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi is known for his work writing and directing comedy, notably episodes of “Flight of the Conchords,” the vampire mockumentary “What We Do In The Shadows” and the road picture “Hunt For The Wilderpeople.”
It would not surprise me if Thor merely stumbled upon Hulk while searching for Thor’s missing dad.
We shall likely learn how Hulk got to Sakaar Nov. 3 when “Thor: Ragnarok” hammers its way into cinemas.
