Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Sasha Williams on “The Walking Dead,” will play Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, the main character on “Star Trek Discovery.”

Martin-Green is the fourth actor cast as a starfleet officer, following Doug Jones as the extraterrestrial Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as gay science officer Lt. Stamets and Michelle Yeoh as Shenzhou captain Georgio. Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo were announced Monday to play a trio of Klingons.
Set 10 years before Kirk and Spock’s original five-year NBC mission, “Star Trek Discovery” launches on CBS and CBSAA in May.
