Goosebumps director to helm the first live-action Pokemon movie!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Legendary and Universal are moving forward with the first live-action Pokemon movie, based on the new Detective Pikachu game. Guardians of the Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) are writing and now the studios have a director: Goosebumps's Rob Letterman.

I haven't seen Goosebumps yet and I hear it's right up my alley, but I can't say him boarding this project particularly excites me. I don't know if his light, goofy style is the right direction for this franchise. When I try to picture this in my mind all I see is stuff like the Garfield movie instead of something super on-point.

That said, Pokemon isn't really my thing. It hit the generation directly after mine and while I have been obsessed with Pokemon Go, it's never really been my thing. I just know that when I talk to my littel brother and his friends or scan Reddit I don't see people wanting a kiddie fart-jokey adaptation, but something a little more badass. There's got to be a sweet spot between a Nolan gritty version of the Pokemon Universe and one just for today's kids, not the now adult Gen 1 hardcore fans.

Maybe Letterman will find that spot and show his range a bit more or maybe the Nintendo/Universal/Legendary team want to make a straight up for little-little kids movie. Who knows?

The dude's got a big job ahead of him. Those Pokemon fans are crazy and with the recent Pokemon Go craze sweeping the nation, the property is back on people's minds. Let's see how it turns out.
