AICN COMICS Q & @: Ambush Bug talks with Writer Matt Miner about his new comic project GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON!

@@@ What the &#$% is AICN COMICS Q&@? @@@

Q’s by Ambush Bug!

@’s by GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON Writer Matt Miner!!!

Ambush Bug here with news about a new Kickstarter LIBERATOR and TOE TAG RIOT writer Matt Miner put together following the comic book adventures of one of the coolest and most extreme bands out there; GWAR. The Kickstarter began last week and more info about it can be found here! But I’ll let Matt explain what this whole project is all about below.

AMBUSH BUG (BUG): For those living under a rock, can you tell the readers who GWAR is and what ORGASMAGEDDON is all about?

MATT MINER (MM): It's a new comic series I'm Kickstarting! I'm co-writing with the band and I coerced my friends Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (art), Marissa Louise (colors), Taylor Esposito (letters), and Brendan Wright (editor) to join me on this crazy ride. For those who don't know GWAR, they're the most iconic heavy metal shock-rock punk rock band to ever come from the depths of outer space and soak their audiences in blood, bile, and... other bodily fluids. Their mythos is incredible – they are the physical embodiment of great comic characters.

BUG: Why go the Kickstarter route with this?

MM: Well, money. If you check out the video at GWARkickstarter.com you'll see that GWAR's persistent but ultimately incompetent nemesis Sawborg Destructo has imprisoned me and Jonathan in a basement and is threatening to kill us at any second! GWAR's gonna come save us as long as we can raise the dough to make the comics, so I banged out a Kickstarter with my feet (I'm currently bleeding and tied to a metal folding chair) and we're hoping for the best.

Also, making comics is expensive and we wanted to make sure that the artists could keep their lights on while they make these rad comics.

BUG: Were you been a GWAR fan before this series?

MM: Hah! Yes! Huge! This is one of my holy grail books I wanted to write when getting into comics! I'm a HUGE fan of GWAR and their 90s side project X-COPS. I've loved them more than half my life and have multiple tattoos to prove it. Heh.

BUG: Is there a musical element to this comic? What GWAR songs do you recommend listening to while reading?

MM: Well you don't NEED to be a GWAR fan to enjoy this crazy blood soaked socially satirical joyride, but if you WERE to start somewhere I'd suggest an album called SCUMDOGS OF THE UNIVERSE, and go from there.

BUG: After my first GWAR concert, I came home completely covered in fake blood (or was it?). Should we expect lots of the gory stuff in this comic?

MM: Of course! In the comic, for sure - maybe ON the comic, or launching from the comic? I'd love to give everyone an in-home taste of a GWAR show and shower the reader with blood but I suspect it'll just be a fun gorefest on the two dimensional page.

BUG: Do you guys acknowledge the tragic death of Oderus Urungus in the comic? He was such an influential persona in the band.

MM: I was wrecked for a long time when Oderus left us and this is a time travel book, so anything's possible. The book focuses on the current line-up, though, and those are the stars, but of course Oderus' presence will always be felt in anything GWAR.

BUG: What kind of incentives are you guys offering for this Kickstarter?

MM: We've got everything from digital comics all the way up to stage-used props from the band. For the savvy eBay flipper we have a buttload of super cool exclusive comics, we have Kickstarter exclusive GWAR T-shirts, signed merchandise from the band, original art, painted drum heads, sketch commissions, appearances in the book – we even have tattoo rewards! Yeah, real tattoos you can pledge on and then go get from pals of ours who poke people with needles and ink for money! Check out all the goods at GWARkickstarter.com!

BUG: This is always a question on the minds of those giving to Kickstarters; where does the donated money go?

MM: Well I kind of explained that with the whole “This alien from planet Scumdogia is threatening to kill us” thing didn't I? But in case you need a more human, or realistic, answer – it goes to art/creator page rates, to the printing of T-shirts and the Kickstarter variants, shipping, and Kickstarter's cut. I stuck a pie chart breakdown on the page for folks who are interested.

BUG: Do you have any other projects coming out soon?

MM: I do, and I'm super excited for them. They, too, deal with horror and gore and are mega-fun, but it's too early to explain much further – follow me on Twitter at @mattminerxvx to stay abreast, but fun things are afoot!

BUG: Last chance, why should the readers support the GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON?

MM: Because Jonathan and I don't want to be cut open by this psycho with a giant saw for an arm! Save us, you're our only hope!

BUG: Best of luck, Matt! This is definitely a project worthy of support. You support GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON by checking out their Kickstarter page here and donating your hard earned dollars to the cause. Check out the pitch video below!
