Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with a fun lineup of some solid short films I think you might want to check out. "Muldoon! It's Sunday, you crazy sexy beast - what's the meaning of this SATURDAY program popping up on a Sunday?" Apologies folks, sometimes life happens - though rest assured the films below are well worth the wait as they're kind of perfect for getting into the spirit of the season, what with ghosts and killing things and all. Last weekend I was actually out in Los Angeles doing what I preach here (almost) weekly... going out and making something you think is cool - in my case handling some ADR for my own no budget feature. The bulk of all the shorts I've had the privilege of screening here weren't slices of "we'll make money off this," more like "I'm passionate and want to make something, becuase no one else is simply going to make it for me." One thing's for certain, whether you dig every single film I screen here (I think we're at 700 right now?) or not, the filmmakers who bring their films here to screen are movie lovers and have taken that step forward from simply watching a film and saying "Well, if I made that - it'd be better because...." and have actually done the dirty work of creating their own bits of art. Okay, that's more than enough jibber jabber - let's start watching some shorts, eh?

AS THEY CONTINUE TO FALL

Bam! First up is a film directed by Nikhil Bhagat and written by Massawyrm, who for years has never accepted my Facebook Friend request. I kid, but Cargill's got quite a few stories up his sleave, as I'm sure you're all more than aware of. Nikhil's created something rather beautiful with his six minute film about an old man hunting fallen angels. I believe there's a feature in the works and that this acts as a proof of concept. I'd very much be down to check out a longer film around this premise and it looks like Nikhil's the man for the job. To his credit, he knows how to capitalize on timing as well as create an interesting film, which is half the battle. "An aging drifter hunts fallen angels in a city slowly falling apart." The film's been online for less than a week and already has 1/4 million views and hit the front page of Reddit, so there's clearly a decent chunk of folks out there who are digging it. I'm one of them.

Filmmaker Sorrel Brae has our next film, a tale of terror that'll have you double checking the locks in your house tonight... Brae and co-writer Zeke Farrow have created an incredibly freaky flick and have made a fan out of me if this film is any inclination of what they're capable of. I'm actually not sure if I've seen anything like this (you'll see...) done so well. The filmmakers wanted to dig into "What happens when you combine a Polanski-esque psychological thriller with the creepy metaphysics of David Lynch, shake it up with a healthy dose of Carl Jung and drop it into the Twilight Zone as imagined by M. MICHAEL JAI WHITE: KILLS MOVIE KILLERS

Next up we have a short from the funny folks at Primr (thanks to Cooper Hagedorn for pointing me in that direction). It's a fun sketch that doesn't wear out its welcome and features Black Dynamite himself destroying countless horror film icons. It's fun. It's freaking Spawn spitting out cheesey one liners while taking care of business... I love it. It ends too soon, leaving a Michael Jai White hole where my imagination is supposed to be. If you're a fan of horror or White (or both, honestly) then you'll get a fun Halloween kick out of the short. There's something insanely endearing to me with our next short, a one minute mockumentary from Nathan Fisher that showcases a superhuman with a very specific and odd super power. "A street performer talks about the elusiveness of success in a world filled with extra-special people." If you like what you see, then be sure to headover to Filminute to see more minute long bits of cool.
DON'T DO IT

To wrap us out is a film from Adam Green, and yes - you're absolutely right that Horrorella posted this already! (Boom! Cookie!) It's no real secret I'm a fan of Green's, his films - his podcasts - his TV show - the way he slicks his hair (well... okay not really). The guy creates fun films and this one is no exception, it's a funny sketch that includes the voice of Sid freakin' Haig as a pumpkin! Each year Green gathers a few horror pals and cranks out something fun, something seasonally spooky, that invites the Halloween spirit into the homes of anyone willing to watch them. So if you have yet to see this one yet, do yourself the solid of checking it out and let me know what you think afterwards. Check out the Ariescope Youtube channel for more of Green's work!
BAM! Okay, I'm terrible for not having this out 24 hours sooner, but still hope you folks had the time to kick back, relax, and watch some pretty fun shorts from (this week) all over America.
