Hey folks, Harry here... The original DEATH RACE 2000 by the great Paul Bartel is one of those Roger Corman films that leapt from the drive-in screens it debuted upon and straight into the heart of cult film lovers everywhere. Now that crap that Paul W. S. Anderson called DEATH RACE drove me insane. The production design was ass, the race was innovated in the same terrible fashion that John McTiernan reconceived ROLLERBALL into an incomprehensible shit storm from which there was no escape.
So imagine my delight when I saw this poster starring back at me in my email:
G.J. Echternkamp, director of the underrated HARD CANDY, is helming for Corman - and that cast has Manu Bennett (aka DEATHSTROKE from ARROW) as FRANKENSTEIN - taking over from David Carradine and Jason Statham... I guess. Malcolm McDowell is playing the Chairman. That's fine by me, the man who killed Kirk, Alex from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE - he was born for this world.
Looking at the poster - hopefully that sense of design will be evident in the film, albeit on the cheapish side. Call me crazy, but man I hope this is just fun as hell. With Echternkamp directing, I hope this series is headed back into the badass Bartel origins from whence it came! I hear this is returning to its black comedy roots... thank the maker!
