Forget Joker. Ben Affleck’s solo Batman has Joe.
Joe Manganiello is aboard to play supersoldier Slade “Deathstroke” Wilson (not to be confused with supersoldier Wade “Deadpool” Wilson) in the solo Batman movie being written and directed by Ben Affleck.
The print version of Wilson was introduced in 1980’s New Teen Titans #2 as Deathstroke The Terminator, though the “Terminator” increasngly fell into disuse following the releases of James Cameron’s two “Terminator” movies in 1984 and 1991. (I’d guess the “Terminator” part of Deathstroke’s name was inspired by Martin Sheen’s Capt. Willard in 1979’s “Apocalypse Now,” given that Willard was memorably assigned to “terminate” Col. Kurtz with extreme prejudice.)
Like Marvel's Steve "Captain America" Rogers, Wilson was a military man injected with an experimental serum that turned him superhuman.
New Zealander Manu Bennett played Wilson on 31 episodes of “Arrow” between 2013 and 2015.
Manganiello played a stripper in both “Magic Mike” movies and the werewolf Alcide on 42 episodes of HBO’s “True Blood.” He also hilariously inspired Pee-Wee Herman to take a vacation in this year’s Apatow-produced Netflix original “Pee-Wee’s Big Vacation.”
