JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON to score new BLADE RUNNER in lieu of Vangelis!

Hey folks, Harry here...  Vangelis created a sonic world for BLADE RUNNER that allowed the film to soar and transport us to a stunning world adapted from Phillip K Dick's DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP by Ridley Scott with the amazing Douglas Trumbull working wonders with light & shadow & smoke & models.   BLADE RUNNER for people of my generation was a key event.  That moment where Harrison Ford created a character that at least amongst my friends stands toe to toe with HAN SOLO & INDIANA JONES.   RICK DECKARD...  BLADE RUNNER....  The film is legend.  Throughout the end of Elementary School, Junior High School, High School, College and the rest of my life...  My friends & I & anyone else my age-ish that I've run into will discuss BLADE RUNNER - argue about the various post Theatrical Release masturbatory cuts of the film, versus the one true Theatrical Release that turned me into a lover of Chandler, Spillane, Hammett and the genre of blistering pulp detectives... along with being the reason I love Humphrey Bogart.  After I first introduced my father to BLADE RUNNER - we came home that night and he showed me MALTESE FALCON - been a Bogie geek ever since.

But the score to BLADE RUNNER - it was something spectacularly new.   Today I got sent a press release announcing the composer on the new BLADE RUNNER flick:

Jóhann Jóhannsson, the Golden Globe-winning, Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy-nominated composer has been announced as the composer for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel's score. Directed by long-time collaborator Denis Villeneuve, who have worked together previously on films The Prisoner, Sicario, and the upcoming film Arrival, (out November 11 in the US), the film stars Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, and Ryan Gosling, amongst others. The upcoming Blade Runner sequel is currently slated for a theatrical release on October 6th, 2017.

He's a very talented composer - and I'll be quite curious what he does with this film.   His EDGE OF DARKNESS work kinda rules.   Here's a bunch of his work to listen to...

That's a big playlist - so feel free to enjoy. And just cuz I love you so - let's listen to some Vangelis too...

Keep it cool,

Harry
