Captain Marvel director shortlist revealed!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We know Brie Larson has been cast as Captain Marvel (perfect, of course) and that they're gearing up to introduce the character in some big way. Dollars to donuts we'll see her in the Russo's Infinity War, but that still leaves the standalone movie hanging out there in the ether somewhere.

The Hollywood Reporter says they know who is in final running for the coveted director's chair, and it's a very interesting list. They say that the three finalists are Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter and Lorene Scafaria. Looks like The Babadook's Jennifer Kent has fallen out of the running, but I'm impressed with the names that are left standing.

My favorite of the three is probably Niki Caro. She directed The Whale Rider and that's such a beautifully done movie. All her work, even the stuff I didn't flat out love like McFarland, USA, looks amazing and having someone with such a keen eye for production design and how that influences tone would be a good get for this one, I think.

Glatter isn't as well-versed in the feature world, but has had a hand in some of the best TV of the last 10 years, including directing for Homeland, Mad Men, Ray Donovan and The News Room.

Scafaria did Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and wrote Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I like her stuff, but I'm not really feeling her for this. Who knows, though. She could have a great take on the character. Obviously something has captivated Marvel's attention and so far their instincts on directors has been pretty damn good.

I'm very much looking forward to this one. You have a great actress in a great role already and now it's just time for them to put the right person in the director's chair.
