Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've seen some reporting on this that makes it sound like Natalie Portman's all like "Fuck Marvel, I'm out!" But if you watch the video interview with the Wall Street Journal she's asked if she's doing more Marvel or if she's done. She responds with that word. "I'm done." But she quickly follows up with something like "I don't know if they'll want me for Avengers 7 or whatever," which to me sounds like her contractual obligations are over, but she'd come back if they asked.
Yeah, it's a bit dismissive and she has a reason to be. I'm a fan of Jane's relationship with Thor, but it's certainly been way underwritten and forgotten about in the giant scheme of things. It feels like Marvel couldn't figure out how to keep her in the major threadlines throughout the multiple films, so she's never really been more than "Thor's girlfriend," even in The Dark World in which she's imbued with huge power for, like, 10 minutes and then goes back to the fragile girl that needs to be protected by the big muscle man from Asgard.
The chemistry between her and Hemsworth is what makes that relationship work, but there's not a lot of meat there for an actor of her caliber to chew on.
