Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Paul Schrader is a guy who I wish would make a movie a year. Like every storyteller that has ever lived, he's had winners and losers, but what I love about his work as a writer and director is the tone he can convey through his characters. Whether the story around them works or not, he always does a good job at creating characters that force you to watch as they crawl through the gutters of human emotion.
I mean, the man gave us Travis Bickle.
His new movie is about some criminal fuck ups played by Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe. That alone should guarantee every cinephile ass in a seat. The interenational trailer that just came out shows that the film also has Schrader's trademark grit and edge. Give it a look:
I kinda love that Nic Cage has swung back to a character that's kidnapping babies, coming full circle to his Raising Arizona days. Dafoe comes off as lovably dumb and kinda insane, which is a good fit for him. Bring it on!
