Joe Carnahan the latest writer to try to crack UNCHARTED!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Uncharted has been struggling to become a feature film for years. Most famously David O. Russell tried to get it made for years. That's an odd choice for the Indiana Jones-inspired archeological adventure video game series, but a fascinating one.

We have Tomb Raider coming back (based off of the much more interesting character of Lara Croft as portrayed in the more recent reboot games), Assassin's Creed starring Michael Fassbender is in post and Jake Gyllenhaal is starring in and producing an adaptation of The Division. We're on the cusp of video game movies finally breaking through.

It's no surprise Sony is trying to get Uncharted off the ground again. They don't have a director yet, but they have locked in Joe Carnahan to take the next stab at the script, per Variety. He's set to direct Bad Boys 3 early next year, so he's not in the running to direct Uncharted, but he is going to get to write the blueprint should this version ever make it before cameras.

Uncharted could easily be a new film franchise, especially in this day and age of superhero escapism. A fun, swashbuckling adventure series with a charismatic lead is just what audiences want right now. If I were running Sony I'd be backing up a Brinks truck to Chris Pratt's house with a fresh copy of Carnahan's script resting on top.

What do you folks think?
