Hey folks, Harry here... I've already seen the eye rolling that Matt Damon is in a Chinese Fantasy Film set upon and titled GREAT WALL... but I know bringing up history is something most people despise, but Marco Polo was in China a couple hundred years before Legendary's GREAT WALL takes place. You see, this film is set in the 15th Century. Trade routes were well established at that time. Whatever, it's a fantasy so they can do whatever they want. You'll also be seeing Willem Dafoe in the film. And an enormous Chinese cast, and the great Zhang Yimou is directing.
You know Zhang Yimou right? He made the stunningly beautiful HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, JU DOU, RAISE THE RED LANTERN, CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER - oh and the director of the 2008 Beijeng Olympics opening! Remember how amazing that was?
This has been a long term passion project for Thomas Tull. He's been trying to get this made for quite some while and it's wonderful to finally see a trailer. Freeze framing on monsters seems odd. The one that grabs a guy off the wall is bizarre looking, and the dinosaur-like clawed foot on fire by Damon before that one explosion looked awfully neat. We know that ILM, ANIMAL LOGIC & HYBRIDE are doing the lion share of the FX work on this, but just knowing Yimou is involved means, the film will at the very least be stunning to look at.
