Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. There are few films to have ever been printed to celluloid that are as charming as The Apartment. I'm trying not to be a contrarian, but I must admit that when it comes to Billy Wilder/Shirley MacLaine movies I kind of favor Irma la Douce, although I recognize The Apartment is a perfect movie. I'm that way with Coppola's one-two punch of The Godfather and The Conversation, too. The Godfather is a perfect, iconic movie, but my favorite is his follow-up.
But that's not to put down The Apartment. It's one of the few hundred films ever made that is perfect lightning-in-a-bottle movie magic. The chemistry between MacLaine and Jack Lemmon is all-time stuff, the photography is gorgeous and the screenplay from Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond is practically perfect in every way.
Today's BTS pic from The Apartment is great because it captures some of the fun spirit of the movie (and I also like that you can see Lemmon getting himself camera-ready in the background). Enjoy!
