Has McTiernan Formally Signed On To Direct T3 Now' Plus more on the T-Femme
Hey folks, Harry here... Alright about a week ago we heard from Michael Fleming at Variety that Mario Kassar was talking with McTiernan in regards to helming TERMINATOR 3. At that point the relationship was mentioned as being in possible talks... Has McTiernan officially signed? Well, this source seems to claim so... though how he got the story is indeed a bit dubious. McTiernan helming this is interesting, but I still feel this is a project I would just rather see not happen. There is nothing in the script that really advances the story of Sarah Connor or the Terminator or even John Connor. I would rather see the series end with that uncertain hopeful look at the oncoming road than see an exclamation mark that is not really appropriate. Right now, I'm just hoping McTiernan will make the film FUN, if he makes it at all...
John McTiernan is directing Terminator 3. This is a fact. I heard this news from a friend of mine who knows Edward Furlong. John McTiernan, the genius behind Die Hard, Predator, The Hunt For Red October, and many others, is taking the reigns of the final chapter in the Terminator trilogy. Just thought I'd get dramatic. Anyway, there's some news.
Jimmy ConwayHey folks, this is.. by no means a confirmation on Chyna's possible involvement in T3... as while many visual effects guys often have the inside skinny on projects like this... we didn't hear it from one of them, but from an eavesdropper... so... Big grain of salt. Personally, I would prefer either Stamos or Henstridge....
Hi Harry,
I just talked to a friend of mine who is an extra on
the queen of the damned that was shooting in Australia
with AAliyah.
She overheard the fx guyz talking about possible
female actresses for T3. They said Chyna was really
being considered but also two others that were on the
short list who I think would be good choices.
The first one was Natasha Henstridge from species and
the current movie Bounce. The other one was Rebecca
Romijn Stamos from the X-Men.
I know this is only gossip but it sounded like good
dirt to me.
Peace Harry

Enough about how crappy a third sequel might be, I'm interested to know if John McTiernan can finally revisit his action PERFECTION that he expressed in "Die Hard". I remember sneaking into "Die Hard" when I was underage and being blown away by how perfect it was as an action picture. That film had INTEGRITY. What has he done since? Frigging "13th warrior" was so inept it made me want to chuck a sword through the screen.

I dont care who directs, as long as it's not fincher.

Having the successful team of the Thomas Crown Affair working together again on the new Bond film is much more desirable to me. McTiernan and Brosnan worked really well together and I hope Brosnan brings him over to do the next Bond film. I could give a crap about T3. Greed is the only reason this film is going to get made. I deplore Sharzenegger's decision to do this movie when he has so many other interesting films on his plate he could be doing. Furlong probably just needs the cash and I don't hold it against him. He probably didn't make much from Pecker, Detroit Rock City or American History X. He's a great young actor. I wish he would have been on the short list for Anakin or Peter Parker. His name apparently wasn't even on the long list ... why? I don't know. He would have been good for either, especially for Peter Parker (Tobey is picture perfect though.)

John McTiernan was, and still is, an A-list action director. Die Hard WAS perfection, but he's hasn't exactly done fuck-all since then. The Thomas Crown Affair was one of the most enjoyable moviegoing experiences of last year. Sure, it was illogical as hell, but a lot of fun nonetheless. Die Hard 3 paled in comparision to the first one, but still blows most actioners out of the water, Red October was classic, and Rollerball sure has my interest peaked! However, the steaming pile of horse-shit that will probably be T3 is not the career move Mr. McTiernan should be taking. I guess it's possible that the movie might be cool. The fact that it was passed over by Jim Cameron, aka The Ego That Walks, is actually a bonus. But to keep "Pecker" Furlong on, while losing Linda Hamilton is not exactly what I'd call condusive to good buzz. I doubt that the Chyna rumors have any merit, but God forbid that they do...shudder. Please Mr. McTiernan, don't do this! My advice to you, if you feel the need to perpetuate a franchise that should be left alone, you could do worse than Die Hard 4. My suggestion for the premise: Antarctica!

Are you referring to the Kim Stanley Robinson novel? That was fine, had a minimum of pulp and I actually learned something. Better not tell any Hollywood execs about the 'learning' part though. They might assume it's an IMAX project.
-
What do you mean the "final chapter" of the series? Do you not know that Mario Kassar announced that 3 AND 4 are being made? Part 4 will be the final one, all about the future war, and will be the end unless of course there will someday be more than that...Oh and Harry, the expanded cut ends with the aged Sarah reflecting on the future while tending to her grandaughter and talking about John's role as senator. If you are going for purity, then THAT image is the one that ended part two...

...he'll do their crappy script, hire their ugly women and has actually directed something before. Fine. I'm not interested in doing other people's sequels anyway, except for the money, the free shotgun, the free SUV and the illegal cigars.

This guy mctiernan is just f***ing great. but i must say, from a norwegian point of view, that McDuck, the brother of McG, is much better than the "oldie" McT. But, McHarry.... Where did McDonald go?
Gee... I've got too much anamorphic pharmatocsicals on my mind.. At least I stay updated on the whole T3-thing here at AICN. that's cool news... what's the origin of that name anyway? -kooals -
If they have to make this thing -- and I hope someone wakes up pretty soon -- wouldn't Jeri Ryan be the perfect Terminatrix? It's type-casting, yes, but it woule be the perfect breakout role for her, even if the movie bombs.

I'm telling you.. Freddie Prinze Jr. for the new Terminator... Long live the suck fest that shall be T3!!!

McT needs to do a suspense action flick again. Key word: Suspen
by wesley snipes
I know if I suggest what he should do, I'll get slammed, so I won't do that. I'll just point out that McT's best flicks - Die Hard, Predator, and Hunt for Red October - all involved heavy doses of suspense punctuated by bursts of action. His crap films - Die Hard 3 and Last Action Hero - tend to be long on action and short on suspense. The best part of DH3 was the hyper suspenseful elevator scene. Has anybody considered that he MAYBE is the wrong kind of director for big action spectacles like T2? You know, those films that rely on extremely visual directors who put together "WOW" scenes that aren't necessarily suspenseful but are most definitely exciting. eg, Cameron, Woo, etc. McT's last bid at that type of scene was the tunnel flooding in DH3. Did anybody find that to be thrilling or cool? The idea was interesting but the execution... Oh hey, whaddaya know, I did suggest what he should do. Guess I should get ready for all those messages telling me to go make my own film if I don't like it. :)

No, seriously, she would really be good as Connor. Strong, sexy, just don't woo her to play the supposed T-Femmebot. -
I agree with you. McTiernan is much better at suspense than he is at spectacle. Die Hard and Red October, his two films that will surely live forever, had at their core smaller, more human stories. Where McT has failed is when he's went for the larger than life premises. eg. the grandiose epic that was to be 13th Warrior (though I've heard Crichton took over and cut that movie to shit) and the debacle that was The Last Action Hero. Both were shit and a waste of this man's time. I'd personally like to see him do something Hitchcockian in scope, but that's just me!

I reckon this should be put down like a faithful dog who has grown old and sick. Put it out of it's misery. We can all look back and remember with fondness T1 & T2, remember how great they were, how they wowed us. But it would just be too painful to watch T3 limp on to our screens with John McTiernan pulling on the lead as hard as he can. It would be for the best. He can make a good film, in fact Die Hard is movie poetry. But some things just shouldn't be. It would just be too cruel.

So......i think think of sooo many reasons why the WWF Star, "CHYNA" shouldn't be in T3. If you were wondering her jugs are fake and if you look closely you will see that she always falls boob-side up when she is hit. No offense to CHYNA but she cannot act worth shit! When she acts she looks like she is reading it off a card. And if she was in T3 it sould just suck, alot! What i think would be cool if John Conor should be teaching Ahnuld to to low fives and then when Ahnuld goes to slap his hand he pulls it away and says, "ohh too slow!" and then Ahnuld gets confused for a second and then looks up and gets pissed and cocks his gun and shoots John right in the face.

Henstridge. Chyna. Stamos. Ryan. Gee wiz none of these ladies have ever been portrayed as super killer babes before. If these are really the best people can come up with, they oughtta go take an imagination pill or something. I like Harry's idea of Holly Hunter, for some strange reason I think that just might work. If like the rumors state, this female terminator can morph on a pure energy level then Chyna is the worst idea of the bunch. Plus muscle chicks are gross. Howz about Michelle Yeoh or some other Asian Kung-Fu babe, so they could throw in some Matrix style mayhem. That way they could cast Carrie Anne Moss and throw away any last semblance of originality the series had. Oh I just remembered the whole thing was ripped off from that pale angry writer guy, but who cares about that? Maybe Asia Argento, that blond girl from High Fidelity or the zombie babe from the Mummy (looks like she kicks some ass in Returns so it will be illustrated for the tired old brains of Kassar and Vanja and they can convince themselves it was their idea). Remember back in the days right after Terminator I came out sci-fi magazines published cover stories featuring Sybill Danning as the female terminator to be featured in part II? HAHAHAHA! I'd like to see that punk super model with the shaved head play "her". But that's just me.

. . .And I hope Chyna stays as far away from this thing as possible. Why? Not because I think she'll ruin it--BUT BECAUSE I THINK SHE'S TOO GOOD FOR IT. That's how much hope I hold out for this thing. Unlike some, I am NOT easily amused. I demand excellence. Or at the very least competence.

I hope arnold is right about the script being good cuz maybe then someone other than chyna will be the t-femme ::crosses his fingers:: I dont care as long as it isnt her. Could u imagine if arnold didnt sign on?? We would have to face the gruesome sight of The Rock as the T-800! I dont have anything against the WWF, but im not exactly a fan. Sometimes its fun to watch a jackass get the shit beat out of him but otherwise its a little bland. I was looking forward to T3 for a long while cuz i consider my self a pretty big fan....but as soon as Cameron and then Hamilton werent attached, my anticipation started to drop...Off topic but i just got scared when i glanced at die hard on hbo and the one fratelli brother from the goonies was the fbi agent....scary. Oh yeah T3....ummmmm....yeah... i really want this to turn out good in spite of everyones predictions ala x-men but i just dont know...There is no fate but what we make for ourselves....lets hope this ragtag group of misfits being assembled into this "film" makes the fate of it be yummy....possibly with sprinkles.

Sigourney Weaver or Angela Basset. Sure they're not pre-teens, but in a hand to hand fight, I'd believe these two could take on the Shwartz. Or Geena Davis, but she'd have to shave her head and wear wrap-around shades like that dude in the french thriller Diva. Anyhow, just my off-the-wall opinion. McTiernan rocks. I loved 13th Warrior!!!!!!!!
-
DEFINITELY not a "chyna." Let's go with the lythe but deadly Peta Wilson ! : )

Bullshit. I heard from my friends neighbors cousing who knew some guy who was married to some lady who had once met eddie furlong and she said that he said he doesnt know who is directing, and the Variety confirmed it. So why cant we just be honest with our selves and come to the conclusion that this T3 project is gonna be a masterpiece...of shit

If you are, you might want to restate your casting comments from the previous T3 article. It appears that we were right at the tailend of that one, and since they've started this new one I doubt that very many people read it.

You're right though, Yeoh sucked so fucking much in Bond. But then I think everything sucked in that one so...whatever. You know what would be interesting is if in 20 years or so The Eaters of the Dead/13th Warrior could be redone as a good film, it has a hell of a lot of potential.
-
Love the HK in skins idea, loved even better the idea of putting Cronenberg and Terminator together....be interesting to see the guy's take on an epic action film - although maybe it'd turn out like Lynch's Dune, basically a dull film with very cool parts -though I don't think crazy cronenberg would fuck it up. If it made tons of money he'd be able to make a dozen or so films he REALLY wants to make. Of course, it could turn out to be total shit, because, well, we don't live in an alternate universe where things like that work out (i.e. where good movies are made)
-
It's been fun, but it seems Hollywood is running short of money so you have to come out of retirement for one last mission. There's a 99.99% chance that you wont make it back alive, but on the up-side there's a 99.99% chance that you'll make some people very rich. Farewell, old friend... or is that Hasta La Vista Baby.
