James Wan's AQUAMAN gets a new (old) writer!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. THR has an appropriately timed scoop that I thought I'd share with you fine people this lovely Friday afternoon.

James Wan is one of my favorite working directors. The man isn't as flashy with his talent as some of the bigger names working right now, but he's just as skilled at visual storytelling as the best of the best are. His framing and camerawork can elevate a weak script and his talent at picking and directing his actors is obvious to anyone who has seen anything he's made in the last decade.

If I'm going to be honest, I don't really give a shit about Aquaman one way or another. He never grabbed me as a comic book character. I don't hate him, I just don't have any strong feelings, good or ill, at all. What makes me exicted for his standalone movie is James Wan.

The news is that Wan's film has taken a big step forward. They've finally settled on a writer after WB has hired and dismissed what seems like a dozen of them over the last 2 or 3 years. One of the earlier writers they hired was Will Beall (known for Gangster Squad and Castle). A few writers stepped in after him, but if THR is correct in their reporting it seems like everything is kind of out the window and now Beall is back working directly off of a treatment by Wan himself.

This news doesn't really change anything for me. My excitement for the project is based solely on Wan's involvement. I'm sure Beall will work well under Wan, but other than that I don't really feel happy or sad about him getting the gig.

What about you?
