Oscar Isaac in talks to star in Steven Spielberg's THE KIDNAPPING OF EDGARDO MORTARA!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Steven Spielberg is currently filming READY PLAYER ONE, but looks to be immediately jumping from that family funtime geeky sci-fi adventure movie to a serious period drama currently titled THE KIDNAPPING OF EDGARDO MORTARA, based on a novel by David I. Kertzer and from a script by Tony Kushner.

Variety is reporting that Oscar Isaac is in talks to star in the film alongside new Spielberg favorite Mark Rylance. They don't know how exactly Isaac is playing, but it's surely the lead. The story is about a young Jewish Italian boy who is taken from his parents in the mid-1800s and raised Christian and the parents' fight to get him back, which puts them in the middle of a religous fight with the Papacy.

Rylance is playing Pope Pius IX, so Isaac is likely the boy's father, but I'm saying that as someone who hasn't read the original novel so I'm talking out of my ass a little bit here and making a big assumption.

I love it when Spielberg one-two punches with something super fun and then something super serious. The best results of that was when he filmed Jurassic Park and Schindler's List back to back.

More than anything I love that Spielberg's still pumping out movies and doing it so well. Keep 'em coming, Stevie!
