Two new Assassin's Creed stills show off both the sci-fi side and the period action side of this video game adaptation!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Assassin's Creed is kind of the great video game movie hope at this point. I didn't hate Warcraft, but it was definitely made for fans, maybe too a fault. We haven't had that fully accessible video game movie yet and when studios crack that code the floodgates are going to crack wide open and you'll soon be seeing a comic book movie-like rush to adapt some of these iconic worlds for the big screen.

Assassin's Creed isn't my favorite game series, but I'm intrigued by the high production value and the weight that someone of Michael Fassbender's caliber brings to this franchise. I personally have a low tolerance for sneaky-sneak gameplay, but adore cat and mouse thrillers, especially ones as weird as this one (it's both futuristic AND period craziness, dipping its toe unexpectedly in heavy sci-fi).

This film could be the big crossover title, the one that plays to movie-going audiences and fans alike. If it's good it could be the start of that tidal wave of video game adaptations I mentioned in the opening paragraph.

We have two new stills, debuted via Twitter, that show both the futuristic sci-fi side and the lower-tech period assassin's guild side. Give 'em a look-see:

Interestingly, the Ubisoft producers have said they don't really think the movie will make much money and they're okay with that since they see it as building the brand and getting more people to maybe pick up the video game. I wonder if that "fuck it" attitude might be just the thing that separates this title from other video game movies and makes it successful.

Who knows if the movie works or not, but I'm glad to see such high production value with each still and poster we see. I have high hopes for this one because if it works it could very well change the franchise filmmaking landscape as we know it.
