Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Deadline has some interesting news regarding that Ellen Page-starring remake of Flatliners.
Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in the original 1990 film, is now committed to joining up with the reboot, playing a "seasoned doctor" in the remake. You might remember the original film was about a group of med students who decide it's cool to stop each others' hearts, getting a thrill out of cheating death. Sutherland co-starred with Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt, Billy Baldwin and Kevin Bacon.
I remember enjoying Joel Schumacher's original, but it's been a loooong time since I've given it a spin. If I'm going to be honest, Flatliners kind of jumbles up with Jacob's Ladder in my mind and I think I'm going to need to rewatch both to straighten that shit out in the near future.
The remake is being directed by The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's Niels Arden Oplev and will star Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons.
Sutherland is a great screen presence and while I don't imagine his character in the remake will play a central role I'm just happy to see him back in the genre.
