While the first six seasons of “Game of Thrones” launched in April, the seventh season will launch later in 2017, the series’ showrunners revealed on the UFC Unfiltered podcast.
The season is being delayed because winter is no longer coming to Westeros. Winter is finally there, and producers want to shoot during our world’s much shorter winter.
“Sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
The writers were no more specific on the date of the season-seven launch, and HBO is not likely to announce it until next year.
The next season is not only coming later, it is expected to be the shortest season of “Thrones” to date, likely comprising only seven episodes instead of the usual 10. The eighth and final season, expected to air in 2018, is expected to be a short one as well.
