We’re soon getting 28 new hours of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” starring a sexy, young new cast comprising Patton Oswalt, Felicia Day and Jonah Ray – but if you want to see the improvisation stylings of the now-fiftysomethings who populated the 1990s version, you need only wait for an event hitting cinemas Tuesday night.
MST3K vets Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl and Bridget Nelson will join Rifftrax masterminds (and fellow former MST3K cast members) Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett for “RiffTrax Live: MST3K Reunion Show.”
This is the first time Hodgson, Beaulieu and Conniff, all regulars on Hodgson's "Cinematic Titanic" project, have appeared on Rifftrax.
Much scorn will be heaped upon old educational shorts tonight, but no word yet on which feature will be mocked.
No mention either of J. Elvis Weinstein, the Cinematic Titanic regular who played Dr. Laurence Erhardt and the first Tom Servo on the earliest MST3K episodes – but new ship’s janitor Jonah Ray will be joining the oldsters for the June 28 event.
