Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One casts TJ Miller!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Every day I kinda have to pinch myself that Steven Spielberg is still on board to direct Ready Player One. I just can't believe it's happening for many reasons, but first and foremost is that it's been a long time since Spielberg has dipped into these kinds of waters. An argument can be made for Tintin scratching that Spielberg fantasy/adventure itch and The BFG will certainly be a throwback to his ET days, but there's something to his straight up live action storytelling that I'm excited to see him return to here.

Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke are on board to lead, Mark Rylance will play the Willy Wonka-ish James Donovan Halliday, and now, according to THR, they've been joined by TJ Miller, who will play a cyber troll who goes by the handle i-R0k.

If you haven't read the book, the adventure part is the search for a Golden Ticket of sorts. There's this thing called OASIS, which is essentially a video game that is as popular and used as the internet. Whoever controls OASIS is not only richer than rich, they also control influence of the entire population. The founder of OASIS has hidden clues in his creation that if uncovered and solved will grant the winner ownership over the platform.

Donovan was a child of the '80s and many of his clues are related to the pop culture references that shaped him, many of which are directly related to Spielberg's work himself. I have no idea how they'll address that in the film, but that's one aspect I'm fascinated by with this film.

Miller playing an online douche isn't much of a stretch, but damn he's good at that persona!

Thoughts?
