Mary Poppins Returns Christmas Day 2018!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Disney has made it official. They've got the practically perfect Emily Blunt in as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns, which will see screens Christmas Day 2018. And she won't be alone.

Hamilton's man of the hour, Lin-Manuel Miranda will co-star as a new character named Jack, a street lamplighter in Depression-era London. The story will be about Mary coming back into the lives of the now grown Jane and Michael Banks when Michael's three children need some help after some kind of personal loss.

Rob Marshall directs and that's the only thing about this long-time-coming sequel that gives me some pause. I think Blunt is kinda perfect for Mary Poppins and it's a big get for them to have Lin-Manuel Miranda right now, but Marshall's a bit hit or miss for me. I love his Chicago adaptation and Memoirs of a Geisha is a gorgeous movie, but he's had a few stinkers recently. If anybody could get him out of a rut it's Mary Poppins, though.

Disney's already confirmed that they're keeping in the spirit of the original film and making it a musical. That's another biggie for me. I don't know if you could recreate the magic of the Sherman Bros original music, but boy will I love to see them try.

What do you folks think?
