The origin of Hodor's name was the invention of George R.R. Martin, who apparently revealed it to the "Game of Thrones" showrunners in a hotel room some time ago. (Does this mean all of Martin's plans for future novels were disseminated to David Benioff and D.B Weiss verbally?)
