Hey folks, Harry here reporting with a shit-eating grin that Jason Blumhouse managed to convince John Carpenter to Godfather a new outing of HALLOWEEN as Producer and Composer. What does this mean? Here's something Carpenter says in the press release:
“HALLOWEEN needs to return to its traditions,” Carpenter said. “I feel like the movies have gotten away from that… Michael is not just a human being; he’s a force of nature, like the wind. That’s what makes him so scary.”
At the Press Event in L.A. John mentioned that he had to miss a basketball game to attend - and some may feel that is a joke, but if you know John Carpenter... for him to miss a Playoff Game... That's a pretty big deal for him, he LOVES the game. LOVES LOVES LOVES. So, I take that little nugget from the event to be a very good sign. I love John, he was one of my first heroes to welcome me into their home a few times and as a movie poster & lobby card enthusiast, we chatted a lot about posters we were always hunting for, for the longest time his search for a set of lobby cards to RIO BRAVO was driving him nuts. Then we told collector loss tales like when he lost a house in a fire that devastated his collection. Similarly, a busted pipe destoryed a ton of our stuff when I was in High School.
Over the 20 years that I've done AICN, I think the greatest failing of Hollywood - if it could be boiled down to a single travesty - it'd be the marginalization of John Carpenter. Not to people like you and me, we love and have always loved and will always love John Carpenter. He's one of the good guys fighting for badassery at every turn. This man is a certified cinematic genius - and while I love an announcement like this - it's half measures to me. I mean, if John were directing... I'd be losing my fucking mind right now. But at the same time, what I want is to see Carpenter revitalized and making film after film after film.
But, I get it. His last few experiences with the studios were battles in which executives severely crippled the projects financially and even with casting concerns. I love that he and his son have become musically entwined and in late June I get to check out John Carpenter doing his live gig concert thing that he's doing. To give you an idea - here's a video of John Carpenter & crew performing his classic HALLOWEEN 3 nights ago live in Los Angeles:
Isn't that fantastic? He's playing this... all over the world - along with other video and audio arrangements from his other films. Where?

How fantastic is that? I bought tickets for Dad and I to attend the Moody Theater performance ages ago, but DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS. Moriarty and I were in the room as John was composing and performing his score for GHOSTS OF MARS - and it is an experience I'll never ever forget. Layer after layer of tracks he was laying down and 4 people in the room. Astonishing. But this... this will be something else entirely - I so can not wait. Every show should sell out so don't hesitate!
With John Carpenter's star ascending again... I know he has some projects in the works - but I don't believe anything is ready to be announced and certainly looking at that schedule above, it wouldn't be happening till late this year or next. But in my nightly sacrifices to Cthulhu, there's always one victims limbs I slowly tear off so that the Dark One will give us more great John Carpenter, because... there's never enough!
