ALIEN: COVENANT Sets To Receive a "Make Under"

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with a tiny bit of news from the mouth of Michael Fassbender on the latest Ridley Scott ALIEN film. While I had fun with PROMETHEUS and have enjoyed the evolution of the ALIEN franchise from movie to movie, I'm insanely curious to see how Scott bridges the ALIEN/PROMETHEUS gap. Quite a few individuals out there took issue with how slick, stylish, and sexy a design PROMETHEUS had. While I wasn't necessarily taken aback myself, I can understand folks tapping their feet at the flashiness of the film when it's original looked so raw, gritty, nasty even. According to Australia's HERALD SUN (via AVPGalaxy.net's watchful eyes) interview with Fassbender (for the latest X-MEN film) that's about to change.

"Fassbender is in Sydney, where he’s filming Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the sci-fi sequel to Prometheus. He’s a big wrap for Scott’s huge physical sets, which he describes as mixing cutting-edge NASA-like technology with “an old-school element where things look battered, like the original Star Wars…”

So to those out there who took issue with how polished PROMETHEUS was, boom - there you go. Comparing something to "the original STAR WARS," that's a tall order and a rather exciting one at that. It's as if Fassbender can't contain his excitement about the film (I can't blame him), as earlier this week he went a little in depth with the INQUIRER about the movie as well:

“The sets are fantastic. Again, the most impressive sets I’ve seen since ‘Prometheus,’ which was the original setting. It’s a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements. The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did ‘Blade Runner.’

“You have this futuristic world where people are eating noodles, because that seems to be the cheaper food and something that will fill you up. But it’s also something that harks back to the past. The weaving of those two things—past and future—together makes for an interesting world that we can aspire to, but also recognize something in it.”

STAR WARS, BLADE RUNNER, okay these are absolutely the right films I'd hoep to hear for this project. Saying something is "like BLADE RUNNER" in today's film world almost immediately deserves an eye roll, but considering the mastermind behind that film is also leading the charge here... it's not that far fetched.
