The CW says of tonight’s “The Runaway Dinosaur”:
With Barry (Grant Gustin) gone, the team must figure out a way to handle the return of an old enemy - Girder (guest star Greg Finley). Realizing Girder is retracing his steps from his last attack, Iris (Candice Patton) volunteers to act as bait to trap him in S.T.A.R. Labs. Meanwhile, Barry fights to return to his old life. Kevin Smith directed the episode written by Zack Stentz.

Last week we saw Team Flash thwart the criminals of Central City as a powerless Barry Allen posed as a hologram version of the Flash, something Harrison Wells didn't think would last as he continued to push for a controlled recreation of the particle accelerator explosion to restore Barry's speed. An idea so radical, the others were understandably against after what happened last time. Including Henry Allen (who returned to town and dropped the bombshell that "Garrick" was his mother's maiden name, something Barry stupidly didn't pay much mind to) and Cisco (who got a "vibe" of his brother, but soon realized it was actually his Earth-2 doppelganger "Rupture" who sought revenge for Reverb's death, unaware it was actually Zoom who killed him.)
Meanwhile, Zoom and Caitlin returned to Earth-1 as Zolomon took over CCPD headquarters forcing them to relocate to Jitters as a base of operations. Soon after, Caitlin managed to alert Team Flash of a Rupture attack on the coffee house where they were successful in defeating him with their speedster hologram. A defeat Zolomon was made aware of from a news report and raced to the scene in a rage killing all of the red shirt cops as well as Rupture for failing him before delivering a televised message to the city that the Flash was no more.
Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry agreed to take part in Well's experiment as the deaths of the policemen and the threat of meta-humans coming out of the woodwork after Zoom's announcement weighed heavily on him despite objections from his father and Iris who had just told him she was open to furthering their relationship. Fears of his safety became a reality as that experiment went horribly wrong when Barry was disintegrated as his loved ones watched in horror.
Little did they know, Wally and Jesse were also caught in the explosion and knocked unconscious as they had broke out of their time vault panic room where they had been hiding from Zoom....who saw what Team Flash was attempting from across town and raced to the scene where he discovered what was left of his adversary as he gloated over their failure and Barry's apparent death.
