Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. My biggest complaint about the last Ninja Turtles movie was that it was too scared to go weird. Not so much with the sequel. They've got Rocksteady and Bebop complete with '80s punk glasses and purple mohawk, they've got evil brain aliens and they've got a van that shoots manhole covers, just like the toy I had as a kid.
So, congrats on getting funky, Team Bay. Maybe because of that they're worried it's too weird for mass audiences so they feel the need to make sure the new trailer introduces the TMNT team... again. In the sequel. To the reboot. Of the adaptation of the cartoon. Which itself was an adaptation of a comic book. That came out over 30 years ago.
Being a Ninja Turtle obsessed kid you'd think I'd be more into these movies, but for me this is just another big, busy CGI action tentpole thing coming out this year. I know others feel the same way, but I also know there's an audience waiting to eat this up.
For instance, when I went to see Jungle Book an entire row of teenage girls sat behind me. All through the trailers they were shouting at each other and laughing and loudly calling each other "homo." When the previous TMNT: OUT OF THE SHADOWS trailer came on they got really excited and a couple announced to the theater that "I'm going to see that!" It's an annoying audience, but it's there.
