"[‘Episode VIII’ writer-director Rian Johnson] is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the Star Wars universe,” Oscar Isaac tells NME.com. “For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe. In some ways it feels like we’re making an independent film. Certain things we get to play with –- this kind of intimacy that we get to find –- it's special. It’s been really fun."
The thing is, the term “independent film” may mean something to Isaac, but to me it’s meaningless. By some definitions “The Empire Strikes Back” is an independent film. The best independent film ever. But whatever dude, as the teenagers say, with their rock and roll and their blue jeans.
All I know is I love Rian Johnson’s very badass “Brick” and I love Rian Johnson’s very badass “Looper” and I look forward very much to what Johnson will do with a lightsaber movie.
I just don’t really understand why I have to wait 20 more months for it.
