Amazon is releasing this thing in June, but this minute-30 slice should give you an idea of what to expect from Refn’s first English-language horror movie since FEAR X.
Sure, the superficiality in L.A. has been done to death, recently in the underwhelming but nonetheless well-received cult film STARRY EYES, but never through the eyes of the auteur behind PUSHER, VALHALLA RISING, DRIVE, and ONLY GOD FORGIVES. Each film of his is usually completely different from the one that preceded it, and I can’t wait to dig into this one and see what kind of magic Refn spun this time.
It'll be playing Cannes, so we'll be hearing about how good the film actually is (or, if it's anything like their reception of ONLY GOD FORGIVES, how long they booed it for) in about a month.
Amazon should be premiering THE NEON DEMON this June.
