"They'll look up and shout, 'Let Jackie Earle Haley play Sayre in DARK TOWER!' and I'll whisper, 'Sure!'"

This is vindicating after defending Jackie Earle Haley’s WATCHMEN work to a friend last night (guess everyone sees it a little differently...zing!).

Aside from the news that he’ll be playing The Terror in the upcoming TICK TV reboot (probably hooded and menacing, and not the creaky, ancient incarnation from the last series), he will also be starring in THE DARK TOWER as Richard Patrick Sayre.

Sayre is a can-toi, the “Low Men” who happen to be the same folks chasing down Anthony Hopkins in HEARTS OF ATLANTIS. They are rat-like creatures who can appear to be human from a distance, until you see the artifice of their masks up close. Perfect for the guy who evoked a three-dimensional character from behind a fluid Rorschach blot.

Between HUMAN TARGET, WATCHMEN, ROBOCOP, PREACHER (where he’ll be playing Odin Quincannon), and now THE TICK and DARK TOWER, Haley has really used his still-impressive comeback to play in some iconic, pulpy worlds, the best of which use his unique features and oddball presence to wonderful effect. His casting in this DARK TOWER movie, and very possibly the TV show/sequels that will follow down the line, makes this whole venture even more exciting, and could provide another eerie, wonderful-looking freakshow for Haley to inhabit and make into something special.

What you Tower-heads think of Haley as Sayre the can-toi?

DARK TOWER is allegedly coming out on January 13th, 2017.
