USA Today has premiered the first two images from Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of BEN HUR and, well, it looks exactly like you would imagine a 2016 action film version of BEN HUR would look.
Which isn’t to say it looks crappy, necessarily, it just doesn’t seem to stand out in any way from a lot of the stylized action fantasy we have been seeing over the past couple of years.
Though, the chariot race does promise to be exciting. Says Huston:
"It's overwhelming and incredibly scary," he says. "But after the first day where you think every second, ‘I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die,’ you decide to put that out of your brain for good and it becomes just part of the job.”
Bekmambetov has stated that the film will lean closer to the novel by Lew Wallace than to the classic 1959 epic film. We'll probably get a better idea of what that looks like with the first trailer, which should be hitting the web before too terribly long, as the film is set to open August 12th.
