The biggest question regarding a KINGSMAN sequel is who they will get to match the showstopping charm of Colin Firth’s Harry Hart as Eggsy comes stateside, and we may have a contender: Oscar-winner, former mutant, and LAST BOY SCOUT co-star Halle Berry.
Ms. Berry is in talks to play “the head of the CIA” in the sequel currently set for next summer.
So is she playing a behind-the-desk type, like Michael Caine’s Arthur, or the kind of badass in the field that Firth’s character was? Remember, back in the days leading up to DIE ANOTHER DAY, there was a lot of talk about giving Berry her own spy franchise as her Bond character, Jinx (in another universe, the JINXes have cleared hundreds of millions while Daniel Craig still languishes in obscurity). She’s younger than Firth, so the idea of her having aged out of being a reliable asset is absurd. Could she really just be in the movie to bark orders in some HQ?
She could even be taking the villain role that Julianne Moore was up for, but maybe not. If they had two prominent female leads, all the better after the male-dominated first one, right?
I’m not sure Berry could fill Firth’s shoes, but I don't think that's necessarily what she's there for. Plus, I’m thinking there’s some more big-name casting yet to come. Stay tuned…
KINGSMAN 2 will have been Berry Berry good to me on June 16th, 2017.
