With his version of THE ULTIMATES being the basis for the AVENGERS movies and his OLD MAN LOGAN series rumored as being the blueprint for the new WOLVERINE movies, Mark Miller’s comics seem to be on the expressway to movie adaptation these days. The ink was barely dry on the script before KINGSMEN: THE SECRET SERVICE and KICK-ASS creator Mark Millar was talking movie adaptations. As was the case with his most recent comic offerings, CHRONONAUTS, HUCK, and STARLIGHT, the mega-scribe's soon to be released new series, EMPRESS saw the movie rights secured before the first issue even hit the stands.
Never one to take his foot off the gas for long, Millar has taken to Twitter to tease an image of the actress who has been cast play the female lead, 'Emporia' in the Sci-Fi extravaganza EMPRESS, penciled by comics superstar Stuart Immonen. By posting the picture below, Millar challenged followers on his @mrmarkmillar feed to guess the actress taking the lead in the movie. With names such as Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie being fielded by followers, Millar is also teasing that he will post similar images of the male leads for the movie in the near future.
EMPRESS tells the story of Emporia, a queen and wife of a galactic despot of “Ming the Merciless” proportions. The series tells what happens when Emporia realizes her husband for what he truly is and, with her trusted bodyguard and three children in tow, decides to escape her husband by any means necessary. With a pedigree for strong adaptations of his work and having written the acclaimed Marvel's CIVIL WAR, a series which emerged as one of the biggest selling comics of the last fifteen years (soon to be making its way to cinemas as CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR) it's a fair bet that some impressive names will be attached to the adaptation.
