“Damien,” A&E’s TV-series sequel to “The Omen,” comes to us from Glen Mazzara, who was replaced as showrunner not a moment too soon on both Starz’s “Crash” and AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
The series begins just as the title character, now a photojournalist, turns 30 and gets the idea he might be the Antichrist.
... a fairly generic supernatural conspiracy thriller with elements of the police procedural …
The San Francisco Chronicle says:
... Eventually, we get used to the bad dialogue and unintentionally funny direction and performances …
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:
... The pilot is relatively inert for a thriller as it pretty much tacks in all the expected directions. …
... Grade: D … If boredom is hell, “Damien” is the first sign of the apocalypse. … The lack of suspense and originality is depressing. …
... feels like dramatic purgatory. …
... Damien joins the franchise, offering spooky and violent moments through its first five episodes, but struggling to find the narrative momentum necessary to work as an ongoing series. …
... the title character and prophesied bringer-of-end-times becomes a rather bland vessel, in a series best consumed without giving it too much thought …
