A Venom movie is back on track at Sony!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Once Deadpool started racking up all the money I had a feeling that long-gestating Venom project was going to get a little boost and looky what's happened.

THR is saying Sony is putting a new writer on their stand-alone Venom series. That writer is Dante Harper, who did some touch up work on Edge of Tomorrow.

Avi Arad is producing and I can all but guarantee that Venom will be an R-rated movie with a lot of dark comedy sprinkled throughout. There are no details out yet, so that's just my gut instinct, but this reeks of them chasing after that Deadpool success.

The THR story says they're still determined to keep Venom out of the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, which I feel is a huge mistake. Raimi kinda dropped the ball on the character, but he's still one of Spidey's best villains. Dollars to donuts if they do Venom's origin story and it's a huge success we'll see the cross-over happen eventually.

So, which iteration of Venom do you want to see? Eddie Brock is still my favorite and if they're going for the anti-hero angle that's a good place to start (Lethal Protector Venom). Plus I bet Flash Thompson's going to still be a high school bully since they're starting so young with their Spider-Man films.

What do you folks think?
