KINGSMAN 2 says Moore is better!

Aside from Taron Egerton, it doesn’t appear that any of the leads of KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE are coming back for seconds, but it looks like the first new star is coming aboard: Julianne Moore.

The Oscar-winner is in talks to play the villain in the sequel, which will bring the action across the pond to our home turf. No further details yet, but presumably the notion of an American faction of Kingsman (or whatever they’re called here) will still be a prominent aspect of the story.

As for the guy we’re all hoping to return in some capacity, he “is not due to come back at this stage,” (though apparently the idea of giving him an identical twin, A BETTER TOMORROW style, was bandied around). Without him and the other headliners, they’re going to have to build up a formidable American cast to keep people interested (with all due respect to Egerton, he doesn’t have that kind of pull just yet), and Moore is as good a place to start as any. Sure, she hasn’t gotten quite the attention for her heavy roles in stuff like SEVENTH SON or HUNGER GAMES as she has for her indie work, but who can dispute Ms. Moore’s talent and versatility? She has the comic chops to give her character the humorous edge of Sam Jackson’s Richmond Valentine, and a sometimes steely edge to make her seem even more nefarious than the guy who used cell phone tech to turn the entire planet against each other.

Unlike KICK-ASS 2, Matthew Vaughn’s actually returning to direct this one, so I’d expect the entire film (including its cast) to one-up the fun-as-hell original. Can’t wait to see who he surrounds Egerton and Moore with.

And seriously, Vaughn, have a Harry Hart. Logistics be damned.

KINGSMAN 2: AMERICAN VACATION will reveal the American equivalent of “Oxfords, not Brogues” on June 16th, 2017.
