DEADPOOL wasn’t really screening a lot until recently, and wasn’t even finished in time to play Butt-Numb-A-Thon two months ago, but the completed product has gotten enough goodwill that Fox is down to invest more money into the Merc with a Mouth.
They’ve greenlit a sequel and have hired Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the ZOMBIELAND guys who wrote DEADPOOL, to get going on the script. Tim Miller’s deal to return as director isn’t in place, but allegedly, they want him to return.
See kids? Sometimes, your pitch videos will actually amount to something. Good to remember.
I think the safest bet is that Reynolds would want to return. The guy’s been floundering in big films that no one sees and smaller films that, while good…no one sees. If this character is as perfect of a fit for his persona as it would seem, then there’s no reason why he wouldn’t want to double down and do more films as the character, mask or no.
No word on whether it would be the X-FORCE movie that Reynolds has brought up on the interview circuit, but regardless, there’s no question that more X-folk would join the roster that already includes Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus. As for which cast members will return, well, we’ll have to see who Pool lets make it through the first movie, now won’t we?
This has gone from something we had to literally beg Fox to do to something they can’t get enough of. Keep struttin’, DEADPOOL. The people like it.
DEADPOOL will clear the way for new, future, maybe even better DEADPOOLs on Friday.
