Hey folks, Harry here and there are very few animated characters as precious to me as POPEYE! The original black & white POPEYE cartoons by Max Fleischer's FLEISCHER STUDIOS... well they're some of the absolute most brilliant character animation in animation history. Inventive and every last one of them packing a surreal punch! Then, I am wildly in love with Robert Altman's POPEYE which was more based upon E. C. Segar's Thimble Theatre newspaper comics for King Features, from which Popeye was birthed. Although I think Altman preferred Bud Sagendorf's gags and style - from when he took over Thimble Theatre for Segar.
Well SONY PICTURES ANIMATION has POPEYE as a priority for them and T.J. FIXMAN, who apparently wrote a pretty solid script for Disney on GARGOYLES and was instrumental in the creation of the video game RATCHET & CLANK... well, he's sitting down to pound out the script for POPEYE - and if JEEP, The SEA HAG and a shit ton of GOONS, along with BRUTUS aka BLUTO, OLIVE OYL and SWEET PEA aren't involved... along with all manners of sea creatures and giant flying roasted turkeys... I'll be perturbed. Now - watch these POPEYE cartoons and dream of how cool this ought to be! You've only got 234 theatrical cartoons to get through on this playlist - and you'll be ten times the human bean you are when you're done...
