Back in November, we heard that Nicole Kidman was in talks to play “a high-ranking Amazonian warrior,” in WONDER WOMAN, and many assumed she was set to play Hippolyta, WW’s mom. Now we know who will actually be playing the role: Connie Nielsen.
Nielsen joins the flick while it’s currently in production in Europe, and though she’s not on the same level of A-list as Kidman, the 5’ 10” actress has a look that certainly looks otherworldly and godlike enough to play queen of the Amazons. Her characters typically have a flinty, guarded demeanor, which should contrast great with the verve and vigor of Gadot’s WW. Plus, they do look more similar than Gadot and Kidman, so that’s something.
As the cast, which also includes Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, and of course Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, finalizes and the cameras start rolling, we should see something of either a spy or official nature from the set fairly soon. We just heard that the film will primarily take place in WWI, which, as Pine himself said, it somewhat unconventional, so that should be a cool backdrop for Diana Prince’s origin. Anyone else curious as to how Patty Jenkins’ WONDER WOMAN is shaping up?
