New PIXAR film called FINDING NEMO
Yippeee..... Harry here with the latest press release from PIXAR on their latest ANIMATED CLASSIC!!!! FINDING NEMO! Alright! This is the 2003 PIXAR flick.... Sounds like it takes place in an environment rich for gorgeous work and unique and startling production artwork and beauty. Again... me happy! This Andrew Stanton fella is a damn fine fella, I met him when I was a Pixar a couple years back.... good solid Geek. Loves this stuff. Can't wait to see more from him. Here ya go.....
Production Underway on New Disney/Pixar Computer-Animated Feature 'Finding Nemo'
Production is underway on ``Finding Nemo,'' (tentative title), a new computer-animated feature film from Pixar Animation Studios (Nasdaq: PIXR - news) in partnership with Walt Disney Pictures, it was announced today (11/8) by Thomas Schumacher, president of Walt Disney Feature Animation and Steve Jobs, CEO of Pixar. The film is written and directed by Academy Award®-nominee Andrew Stanton, who served as co-director of the 1998 Disney/Pixar hit ``A Bug's Life'' and is credited as co-screenwriter of ``Toy Story,'' ``A Bug's Life,'' ``Toy Story 2'' and ``Monsters, Inc.'' Graham Walters, ``Toy Story 2'' production manager and Pixar veteran, is set to produce. ``Finding Nemo'' is scheduled for a summer 2003 release.
``Finding Nemo'' is an underwater adventure between a father and son. Nemo, a boy clownfish, is tragically stolen away from the safety of his coral reef home, and his timid father must search the dangerous and unforgiving ocean to find him. This latest original story from Pixar Animation Studios follows ``Toy Story,'' ``A Bug's Life,'' ``Toy Story 2'' and the upcoming ``Monsters, Inc.'' which is scheduled for a November 2001 release.
``'Finding Nemo' has been swimming around in my head ever since 'Toy Story,' and I'm thrilled to have gotten the go-ahead from Pixar and Disney to make the movie,'' said Andrew Stanton. ``Pixar has always been a place that inspires excellence from its artists, and I feel that 'Finding Nemo' will be yet another testament to that notion.''
Stanton joined the Pixar animation team in 1990 and was one of four screenwriters to receive an Oscar® nomination in 1996 for his contribution to ``Toy Story.'' His credits to the latter film also include original story, story artist and additional voices. He went on to receive screenwriting credits on ``A Bug's Life,'' ``Toy Story 2'' and the 2001 Disney/Pixar animated feature, ``Monsters, Inc.'' Selected to join Pixar on the basis of his independent animated shorts -- ``Somewhere in the Arctic'' and ``A Story'' -- Stanton went on to serve as directing animator on commercials for Trident, La Nouvelle Polo, Lifesavers (co-director) and directed spots for Tropicana, Bunn Coffee Makers and Listerine. He also co-directed with John Lasseter on ``Luxo Jr. in Surprise/Light and Heavy,'' which was produced for ``Sesame Street.'' A graduate of CalArts with a BFA in character animation, Stanton's professional career also includes stints with Ralph Bakshi and Kroyer Films, Inc.

I hated Toy Story. I hated Toy Story Two. I hated A Bug's Life. The problem lies- that Harry animation is going to be the death of me, fuck that is annoying-the problem lies with the fact that Disney is so squirreled that the animation in these movies are as good as they are (this I must concede, the artists who do these movies are pretty fucking talented) that they ignore the fact that the stories suck. I cannot remember a time that i was more bored then when I was in the theater watching A Bug's Life. Oh, wait, yes I can, sitting in the theater watching Toy Story. Even Toy Story 2, the least shrill in the Disney/Pixar line-up that watcing it made my stomach turn. I wish that they would stop making as much fucking money as they are so they stop churning out this shit.
-
I agree that "A Bug's Life" sucked- big time. I actually liked the Dreamworks "Antz" more. But Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were damn fine movies... they had a very child-like, Spielbergian quality. "Monsters, Inc." will suck. (Note to Billy Crystal- your asinine shtick hasn't been funny since the first "City Slickers," and that was almost 10 years ago. Even "Analyze This" didn't redeem you because you never stop playing the same guy.)
I have hopes for this one though- perhaps it can go beyond the TS series by being more than a tech reel with a heart. -
'nuff said. Oh, I'm not excited at all by this film.
-
There are actually people in this world that dislike Toy Story. Oh well. I even preferred A Bug's Life to Antz, though both movies have their flaws. Anyway, I have a hard time believing that anything out of PIXAR is going to "suck" at this juncture. They'll have to make a genuinely bad film first. But I was primed for "The Incredibles", Pixar's reported team-up with Brad Bird, about a family of superheroes. It's definately the most promising-sounding Pixar film. Does this mean there's nothing to come for 2002? I thought they were going to try and make a new one each year.
-
Yes, that is a good point. Antz I thought as an excellent movie. I'm just a sucker for Woody Allen. Combine Pixar's animation with Dreamwork's writing and you may have a good point. And about Billy Crystal, I'd personally like to see him star in more romantic comedies. I was just tickled pink after seeing Forget Paris. I see him with Jennifer Lopez in a crazily out of control south american romantic romp. To quote the man himself "Hellooo??" This guy has not been involved with a good picture since "Throw Mama from the Train", and I don't even think of that movie as a comedy. The man did do good work on SNL though, to be fair.

That sucks, but Steve Jobs has an explanation. I shamelessly took this from an article at CBS MarketWatch: *** Walt Disney Co., which co-produces and distributes Pixar's films, has agreed to make "Nemo" its primary summer release for 2003, Jobs said. Pixar planned to release "Nemo" during Thanksgiving 2002, but opted instead for the prized summer slot later. "It is so coveted, we have never achieved it before," Jobs said. *** BIG score for Pixar!! Looks like Disney is realizing that their best recent efforts aren't half as good as even a mediocre Pixar film (like Toy Story 2).
-
I may have heard people gripe about Bug's Life before (which I loved), but I've never heard anyone complain about Toy Story or Toy Story 2. I honestly can't see what there would be to complain about unless you just can't get into the "child-like" stories. If that's the case though, I don't really get that either. Everyone knew what they would be getting before they went in. Whatever. To whomever mentioned "The Incredibles" earlier, I'd like to know more about that. I'd love to see Pixar's take on a family of superheroes. A Pixar-quality animated show about superheroes. Geek heaven.

Disney is dead, long live Pixar!!!! The house that Walt built has long since crumbled, and although it was rebuilt, it has again come crashing down, and only the nerds can save it now!!! The second coming of the mouse will be digitized!!!

Hey Harry, I seem to recall that you promised us a review of your visit to Pixar Animation Studios when you had visited it before A Bug's Life came out. Did you ever write that up?
-
sounds good.
-
Okay so is the Tron sequel/remake project just *GONE* now? I was really looking forward to that. Tron is one of my favorite films ever. Harry, I beg of you, tell me something good about Tron. Tell me Tron ain't dead. Say it ain't so Harry, say it ain't so.
-
In fact, I'm not even sure it ever existed as anything more than an internet rumour. No wait, the original director said he was working on a sequel. I don't think Pixar has ever been officially linked with it...now that Disney has "The Secret Lab" they might actually attempt to do it themselves. But yes, the sane choice is for Pixar to do it. However, I know there's jockeying for power...Disney's nervous about Pixar bolting after it's fulfilled its 5-film commitment, and Dinosaur was a bomb. So in some ways they may be trying to undermine Pixar so they don't have a serious rival to deal with if they split off. On the other hand, Pixar may now be stockpiling their "best stuff" for after they leave Disney--which explains the very Disney-ish sound of this project. Is there firction developing between the two companies? Sometimes it seems that way...
-
If Pixar leaves Disney, just think of the movies they could make. They wouln't have to worry about G rated things as much. An R rated Pixar movie would be cool. Of course it would need a good script.
-
Somebody mentioned that an R rated Pixar film would rock.. I agree. Give Pixar a decent script that isn't aimed at the 10-15 age market, and I'm sure they could produce a masterpiece. Of course, there's always Final Fantasy, which is probably where Pixar is going (if it's as good as it's being touted to be, of course)
-
I think I'll pass on this one. Remember the Incredible Mr. Limpet? Throw in Don Knotts voice and maybe I'll rent it.:)
Actually, I was Hoping for a Winsor McCay character oh well... -
Just imagine what the press releases will be like when this thing gets closer to release: "Finding Nemo makes a splash!" "'Finding Nemo' quenches!", "Dive into it" blah blah blah.
-
Antz had ugly designs, a confused story, and really poor animation. A Bug's Life was loud overall, but I (along with most everyone who saw it) laughed more at A Bug's Life than the insiped Antz. Oh yeah, and it made a LOT more money. Antz barely broke even.
-
PDI is the company that produced antz and in a seminar last year, they said they had 2 more movies in the works...Tusker and Shreck or something like that... Whatever happened to them? For the record, each one of Pixar's films have more depth, emotion, fun, and development than any 5 "so-called-adult" R rated action or drama films. Especially the animated ones...Heavy Metal 2000 anyone? -=TheKraken=-
-
Take this, as you will...
Many of the animators at Pixar either worked for Disney, went to CalArts (which was established by Disney), or both. One could say that Pixar is the legitimate heir to the former Disney glory. (Or heir of the putrid rotten rat scum depending on your viewpoint.) Wow, could it be kind of like the Sword in the Stone? Maybe I have watched too many Disney movies. -
I don't know anything about this movie, but I remember Roger Ebert saying something about it getting the Cyberworld 3D treatment. In other words, they're going to release it as a 2D animated film, then use the same process they used on sequences in Cyberwordl to make it 3D and release it in IMAX theaters.
-
Hey, just a little news I heard. Someone was telling me that Pixar signed with Disney to make 5 movies. That's right, while starting out they needed something to get them going, Disney agreed to help them out and Pixar's first 5 movies would be Disney's...
But with this Nemo movie..that would be number 5, and supposedly after that Pixar would be free to make whatever movies they pleased, however they pleased, with no Eisnerland mouse looking over their collective shoulders.
Anyone else where anything like that? Or is my source completely off base? -
Originally Pixar had a deal with Disney to produce 3 films, starting with Toy Story. This was way back when Pixar was an unknown commodity, so Disney could force the contract in their favor. The deal was that Pixar would get 10% of the take, and Disney would distribute the films. With the phenomenal success of TS, Steve Jobs stepped in and renegotiated a new contract. Pixar must now develop 5 original films (the first two being the remaining two from the original contract), the take is now 50%/50%, and Pixar's name is equal to Disney's in all advertising. .... A Bug's Life was the first film under the new contract. Toy Story 2 was originally developed as a direct-to-video sequel and was not part of the contract; when Disney saw the first rushes, they decided to distribute it theatrically. Monsters' Inc. is number 2, and Finding Nemo is number 3. If I understand the rest right, number 4 is in the planning stages, and The Incredibles will be number 5.
-
I believe the deal struck between Disney and Pixar (according to their propsectus) called for 5 new pics within 10 years.
