We just got a look at the teaser poster for THE LEGEND OF TARZAN earlier today, and now, we got a trailer to go along with it.
It works hard to build the myth of Tarzan, but I don’t get much of a sense of their take on the character. There’s some awkward CGI shots of him swinging through the trees and jumping and stuff, but it all looks kind of generic and action-y.
Samuel L. looks good as Tarzan’s buddy, who kind of reminds me of Ernie Hudson in CONGO (“I am your great white hunter, though I happen to be black”). Waltz, Djimon Hounsou and especially Margot Robbie seem well-suited, if a little obvious, for their parts, and though the CGI is obviously early and unfinished, the ape-on-human stuff has potential (though I’m not expecting anything POTA-level). I like the look David Yates went for; it’s not exactly Malick or anything, but it’s darker and feels more natural and atmospheric than the Tarzan flicks we’re used to.
This is a decently cut teaser, but it doesn’t really give us any clues as to its identity. We know who Tarzan is, but why should we care about this one?
