The Hollywood Reporter has a swell interview with “Jessica Jones” showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in which she explains she’s pretty out of the loop with regard to the onscreen future of the character, which she began developing for ABC several years ago.
Some takeaway:
* Rosenberg has not learned whether there will be a second season of “Jessica Jones.”
* Rosenberg doesn’t know if a second season, if greenlit, would arrive before or after Netflix/Marvel’s “The Defenders” series, which is expected to team Jessica Jones with fellow superheroes Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist and possibly others like The Punisher.
* Rosenberg doesn’t know if she’ll be involved with “The Defenders,” but she very much wants to be. “I'm a complete control freak when it comes to this character. I will do everything in my power to protect the character in whatever forms. They'll have to throw me kicking and screaming out of that building. But they own the property. They've really been inclusive thus far so I'm not really worried about it.”
* Back when Rosenberg was developing a Jessica Jones series for ABC, she wanted to carry over Carol “Captain Marvel” Danvers as Jessica’s blonde best friend, but that was before Disney and Marvel decided they wanted to make a Captain Marvel movie a priority.
